Stepmoms: It’s not a job for sissies, but it needn’t be a wicked experience
In her early years of being a stepmother, Sally Bjornsen had plenty of "What have I gotten myself into?!" moments.
One such moment occurred when one of her two stepsons deliberately
tripped her on the sidewalk in front of Nordstrom. It was compounded
when her husband went to comfort the son, whom she had yelled at,
rather than helping her bruised body and ego off the pavement.
Stepfamilies – The Golden Rule
You need to be aware of and convinced of the essential
rules. Here they are …
Accept wholeheartedly that a stepfamily is different. It's different
from what you have had before and it's different from the so-called
'normal' family. Don't try to ape the 'happy normal family'. You
now have persons living together who never meant to live together.
Their lives are upset. They are sometimes angry. It's all very strange.
Don't kid yourself or others that everything's wonderful!
