how to protect your children, your finances, and your sanity

separation and the family law system.' — Tony Gee, Relationships

How
do couples survive one of life's most painful experiences and create
new and successful post-separation lives for themselves and their
children?
Surviving Separation
builds on the key insight that dismantling a relationship, especially
one that has produced children, is not an event but a process – a
challenging journey in which couples who no longer wish to be together
need to learn to live apart in relative harmony. To do this well,
former couples require a new way to talk to each other and an
understanding of the legal and social supports that are there to help
them.
Celia Conlan, a
lawyer who has worked for several years as a children's representative
in the Family Court, draws on her wide experience to help couples make
informed decisions about when and how to end their relationship; how to
negotiate post-separation arrangements both in and out of court; and
how to avoid the fallout created by misunderstandings and resentment.
At all times, she is passionately aware of the impact of parental
conflict on children, and the importance of keeping children's needs
paramount.
Full of empathy, commonsense and revealing case studies, Surviving Separation
will be of immense benefit to separating couples, their families, and
all those in the community — such as counsellors, mediators, legal
professionals, and teachers — who work with them.
Celia Conlan is
a Melbourne lawyer with a special interest in family law and children's
issues. In her current role as a child representative she works as an
advocate for children in legal proceedings and as a duty lawyer in the
Family court. She also conducts seminars for self-represented litigants
in family law matters. Celia is married and has four children. She
lives in Melbourne.
